Truth And Accountability League (TAAL), Southern California and Orange County Armenian Democrats Applaud CDP Reaffirmation of Support for Justice for the Armenians of Artsakh
LOS ANGELES — The Truth And Accountability League, Southern California Armenian Democrats, and the Orange County Armenian Democrats commend the California Democratic Party (CDP) for the recent reaffirmation of its support for justice and accountability in response to Azerbaijan’s designated genocide against the Armenian people of Artsakh.
The resolution, “Condemning Azerbaijan’s Actions in Artsakh and Calling for Justice,” was reaffirmed by the CDP and backed by CDP Regions 11 and 19. It was authored by Dr. Kev Abazajian (AD 73), Dr. Suzie Abajian (AD 52), and Vic Gerami (AD 44), and proudly supported by both the Truth And Accountability League (TAAL), Southern California Armenian Democrats, and the Orange County Armenian Democrats. This powerful resolution reinforces the Party’s previous support for the human rights and security of the Armenian people and signals its ongoing commitment to standing on the right side of history.
“Artsakh is not just a territory—it is an ancestral homeland, with deep cultural, religious, and historical significance to the Armenian people,” said Dr. Kev Abazajian. “This resolution affirms that we will not be silent in the face of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and the destruction of a people’s cultural heritage.”
The resolution highlights the credible findings of genocide, including the August 2023 expert opinion of Luis Moreno Ocampo, founding Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, who identified Azerbaijan’s actions as genocidal. His findings were echoed by the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention, Genocide Watch, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, and other experts.
“California Democrats have again made it clear: international law, human rights, and justice must prevail,” said Dr. Suzie Abajian. “As a Party, we are aligning our values with moral clarity and urgent action.”
The resolution calls on the international community to uphold the rights of Armenians displaced from Artsakh and ensure the safe, secure, and dignified return of these indigenous people to their ancestral lands. It also calls for holding Azerbaijan’s leadership accountable for crimes against humanity and violations of international law.
“TAAL welcomes this development from the Democratic Party, but it’s just the beginning of our fight to bring recognition to the Artsakh Genocide, which is an extension of the Armenian Genocide that started over one hundred years ago,’ added Vic Gerami. “We demand the return of indigenous Armenians to Artsakh, their homeland of millennia, sanctions on Azerbaijan, and an end to Aliyev’s ongoing cultural genocide and erasure of everything Armenian.”
The Truth And Accountability League (TAAL), Southern California Armenian Democrats, and the Orange County Armenian Democrats thank the California Democratic Party for reaffirming its support, and are proud to have co-sponsored the resolution alongside CDP Regions 11 and 19. Together, they reaffirm the Party’s commitment to truth, justice, and the protection of human rights.
