TAAL Statement on President Erdogan’s Hypocrisy

President Erdogan’s condemnation of Israel is not only hypocritical but a cynical attempt to deflect attention from his own record of bloodshed and exploitation. Under his rule, Turkiye has been complicit in massacres of Syrians, Kurds, Armenians, Yazidis, and other vulnerable groups. Erdogan presides over a state that still refuses to recognize the Armenian Genocide or acknowledge the cultural genocide committed against Western Armenia.

While posturing as a champion for oppressed peoples, Erdogan enables the transfer of Azerbaijani oil and gas to Israel through Turkiye, and Turkish steel and other exports continue flowing into Israel alongside lucrative contracts. His rhetoric against Israel is a calculated performance designed to mask the profitable ties between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

Erdogan’s complicity in the Yazidi genocide, where women and children were raped, enslaved, and sold, is undeniable. His government provided safe havens and resources to ISIS, even installing an ISIS-linked terrorist in power in Syria. Erdogan’s expansionist agenda is evident in his ongoing efforts to carve up Syria for Turkiye’s and Israel’s benefit, destabilizing the region for his own ambitions.

Erdogan also manipulates Europe by threatening to release more than three million Syrian refugees if the EU does not bend to his demands, even while accepting billions in EU payments to contain those same refugees.

His oppression of the Kurdish people, marked by brutal crackdowns and systemic discrimination, is another crime against humanity in a long list of atrocities. Erdogan’s record—ranging from fostering terrorism to waging wars of aggression and committing cultural erasure—strips him of any moral authority to speak on justice or human rights.

TAAL calls on the global community to expose Erdogan’s hypocrisy and hold him accountable for his crimes against humanity, his destabilization of entire regions, and his exploitation of human suffering for political gain.
